What and When to Eat
Experts tell us that a healthy diet is one that is rich in fruit and vegetables, and starchy foods like potatoes, and low in fat, salt and sugar.
You do not have to ignore all the delicious treats completely but try to follow these simple hints to help your stomach, your digestive system AND your waistline:
- Choose leaner cuts of meat, and filleted fish
- Try a salad, or steamed vegetables, with your main course, rather than fried vegetables, or dishes like potato dauphinoise, which is made with plenty of cream and high fat cheese
- However tempting, try your dessert without extra cream or ice cream (or worse, both!) – not only will your waistline thank you, but you’ll enjoy the flavour of the dessert more!
- Don’t overdo the alcohol with food – instead, alternate glasses of wine with water (still rather than sparkling) to help you enjoy your meal and keep your digestive system functioning properly.
